As 2024 draws to a close, I've been reflecting deeply on a question at the heart of our journey: Why am I so driven to create content for you?
For years, I've felt this persistent pull to share insights about economics and professional development across multiple platforms – from this newsletter to Instagram, LinkedIn, and beyond. While my long-form content on YouTube and the podcast are temporarily on pause (real-world commitments have a way of reshaping our plans), this drive to create and share hasn't diminished. It has found new ways to express itself.
The answer, I believe, goes beyond simple knowledge sharing. It's about something more fundamental: the desire to help others process and make sense of information. Having spent most of my time in academia, one might assume this stems from my role as a professor. But that's only part of the story – after all, not every educator feels compelled to reach beyond the classroom walls.
What makes some of us different? Perhaps it's the recognition that we need more content AND context, synthesis, and bridges between complex ideas and practical applications in today's information-rich world. That is what I love doing.
Your Favorite Content from 2024
I'm deeply grateful for how you've engaged with and supported my content this year. Here are some highlights that resonated most with our community:
Instagram: A professor meme that perfectly captured the different perspectives of finals week is about to hit 1 million views! Your shares and comments showed me that sometimes it is okay to take yourself less seriously. Or, as some of the comments said, CRINGE!
LinkedIn Insights: My analysis of Gen Z's financial perspectives struck a chord, sparking meaningful conversations about generational attitudes toward money and success. (Link)
Newsletter Growth: Our discussion on the smart landing your dream job brought 13 new members to our community – Maybe it is practical; actionable advice is what you value most.
I always tell people that I feel driven to create for them, and seeing the growth in reach and impact this year has been incredibly rewarding. When I share an economic concept or a professional development insight, I'm not just broadcasting information – I'm attempting to create a space where ideas can be explored, questioned, and ultimately understood in a way that makes them actionable.
