Are you a sides or Turkey person? That’s the questions my student asked me this past week. When it comes to Thanksgiving, I am a traditionalist. Thanksgiving is about the entire meal, it requires the turkey, sides, and pies.
According to the IRI Trends, this year’s Thanksgiving meal will cost 13.5% more this year than it did a year ago.
Here are some other items to discuss over dinner:
Most of the increase in cost is associated with the cost of making pies. Pie cost have increased by 20.8%, while poultry is up 8.1%.
People are returning to their normal ways of celebrating, with 76% reporting they will celebrate Thanksgiving the way they did before the COVID pandemic.
Gen Z reports that they are increasing their guest list size from 7.4 to 9.8 guests.
Only 9% report that they will celebrate with friends. Family are the most popular guest options with 35% choosing to spend time with family.
What are your Thanksgiving plans? How are you celebrating this year?
